Don’t let the fame of the Tower distract you from the overall beauty of the other architectural marvels in the Square –Piazza dei Miracoli is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is also home to the city’s other two main attractions, the Cathedral and the Baptistery.
Florence
After one hour you’ll re-board your minivan for a scenic 90-minute ride through the Tuscan countryside that will take you to experience the breath-taking beauty, charm and artistic marvels of Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance.
Your first stop will be Piazzale Michelangelo, a famous square with a magnificent panoramic view of Florence that has been depicted in countless postcards and snapshots.
Your tour continues to explore the city’s most important artistic treasures: Piazza Santa Croce, where you can get up close to the final resting place of many legendary Italian characters, including Galileo, Michelangelo and Machiavelli; Ponte Vecchio, Italy’s most famous and fascinating bridge; Piazza della Signoria, with Palazzo Vecchio overlooking the square and a copy of the statue of David welcoming you at its entrance; Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the main church of Florence, with the world-famous dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi.
After approximately three hours filled with memorable sightseeing activities your tour concludes with a walk back to your minivan and a scenic return to Livorno and your ship (usually expected at 5.30 p.m.).
